Crappie USA Tournament Results for Lake Greenwood

This past Saturday Crappie USA held a qualifying event on Lake Greenwood in South Carolina. These anglers were competing for not only cash and prizes, but a chance to advance to the prestigious Cabelas Crappie USA Classic to be held in September on the Pickwick/Wilson Lakes at Sheffield, AL.

Semi-Pro Division Results

Taking first place was the team of Todd and Leonard Frick of Leesville, SC with a total weight of 7.86 pounds and taking home $700.00 for first place. Todd and Leonard were vertical jigging logs and brush in 5-15 feet of water in various spots on the lake, finding their best luck on white/chartreuse jigs.

Second place went to Ricky and Larry Cannon of Chapin, SC weighing in 7.66 pounds. Ricky and Larry were pulling jigs in 16 feet of water with their fish suspended 3-4 feet deep using Uncle Henrys and Sliders. The team received $500.00 for second place.

In third place was Russell Rush and Dennis Outlaw of Camden, SC with a weight of 7.16 pounds and taking home a check for $350.00. Russell and Dennis were fishing in Reedy River all day pulling double rigged jigs using Sliders, AWD baits and Spike It in a variety of colors. Russell and Dennis wish to thank Minn Kota for a trolling motor that truly helps in keeping them in the wind all day.

Steve Deason of Gray, GA and Rick Howard of Warner Robbins, GA took fourth place with a weight of 6.66 pounds.

Fifth place went to Loy E. and Jon M. Cannon of Chapin, SC with a total weight of 6.26 pounds.

Amateur Division Results

In first place in the amateur division was Teddy and Annette Kneese of Batesburg, SC with a total weight of 8.42 pounds and receiving $700.00 for first place. Teddy and Annette were pulling 1/16th ounce jigs with a spit shot sinker to help keep the bait down at the 12-16 feet area where they had found fish. The team was using an un-named brand purple plastic fish tail bait to take first place.

Second place went to Ronnie Sheely of Batesburg, SC and Wyman Gregg Mathews of Lexington, SC with a weight of 7.61 pounds and taking home a check for $350.00. The team was vertical trolling in 16-23 feet of water using chartreuse Culprit and Slider jigs catching most of their fish early in the day.

Taking third place was Jimmy Hood and Sandy Haselden of Rock Hill, SC weighing in 7.02 pounds. Jimmy and Sandy were long line trolling in 20 feet of water with their fish suspended at 15-16 feet deep. The team was using Sliders, Kalin and Southern Pro jigs in a variety of colors and receiving $225.00.

In fourth was the one person team of Dennis Edmondson of Shelby, NC weighing in 6.41 pounds and taking home $175.00. Dennis was long line trolling in 16-17 feet of water catching his fish on the bottom. I used every bait in my tackle box, but caught most of my fish on black/chartreuse baits, said Dennis.

Fifth place went to the team of Joseph and Janette Carter of Gilbert, SC with a weight of 6.38 pounds and receiving $150.00. The Carters were long line trolling in 5 feet of water with their fish holding near the bottom. The team started the day in Reedy River and worked other areas of the lake in the creeks using red/white/blue, bubble gum and chartreuse Sliders, Culprit and Food Source baits.

The top male/female of the event was Leland and Dorothy Woods of Aiken, SC with 3.79 pounds.

The top adult/youth team Robert Heywood and Joseph McGee of Batesburg, SC with a weight of 4.33 pounds.

Congratulations to all the teams fishing this event. The first place team in each division have now qualified for the Cabelas Crappie USA Classic along with the top 10 teams in each division advancing to the regional event which will have a major payback. Big Fish Award

Taking big fish of the event was the team of Todd and Leonard Flick of Leesville, SC with a 2.1 pound crappie. Todd and Leonard received $273.00 for big fish of the event. Second place in the big fish contest was the team of Ronnie Sheely of Batesburg, SC and Wyman Gregg Mathews of Lexington, SC with a 1.82 pound Lake Greenwood Crappie and receiving $117.00.

Crappie USA Kids Fishing Rodeo

In conjunction with the tournament Crappie USA held their Kids Rodeo on Saturday morning with several local children attending the event. All the participants signed up for a chance to win one of 4-$5,000.00 scholarships to be drawn for at the Cabelas Crappie USA Classic.

Crappie USA and our anglers have contributed near $200,000.00 to the Crappie Kids Scholarships since 1997. We are very proud to be a part of the education process for the youngsters who participate in our tournaments as adult/youth teams and those who fish in the Crappie USA Kids Fishing Rodeos.
