Crappie USA Tournament Results for Lake Hickory

This past Saturday Crappie USA held a qualifying event on Lake Hickory near Hickory, North Carolina. These anglers were competing for not only cash and prizes, but a chance to advance to the prestigious Cabela's Crappie USA Classic to be held in September on the Pickwick/Wilson Lakes at Sheffield, AL.

Semi-Pro Division Results

Taking first place was the team of Randy Pope of Hickory, NC and Jerry Pruitt of Vale, NC with a weight of vvv and taking home $500. for first place. Randy and Jerry caught there fish shooting docks in 5-25 feet of water using Lindy's white little nippers on 4 pound test line.

Second place went to Kenneth E. and Kenneth J. Bowman of Granite Falls, NC with a total weight of 8.39 pounds. The Bowman team was catching there fish in timber in 15 feet of water using black shad panfish assassins.

In third place was Debby McConnell of Santee, SC and Noah Hailtiwanger of Elloree, SC with 3.26 pounds.

George Parker of West Palm Beach, FL and Denny Tittle of Umatilla, FL took fourth place with a weight of 2.79 pounds.

Amateur Division Results

In first place in the amateur division was Kevin and Pety Brookshire of Taylorsville, NC with a total weight of 8.38 pounds and received a check for $400.00. The Brookshire team caught their fish on Albino panfish assassins in 3-5 feet of water.

Second place went to Danny Medlock of Taylorsville, NC and Ted Cable of Granite Falls, NC with 6.73 pounds and receiving $200.00. Medlock and Cable caught their fish using black shad and Arkansas shiner colored jigs in one foot of water.

Taking third place was Avery and Patricia West of Elkin, NC with a weight of 5.76 pounds and taking home $100.00. The West team was using a minnow under a float in shallow water to take third place.

In fourth was the team of Bobby and Michael Jacobs of LaCross, VA with a weight of 3.82 pounds.

Fifth place went to the team of Ricky and Jonathan Lewis of Panhook, VA with a weight of 3.03 pounds.

Congratulations to all the teams fishing this event. The first place team in each division have now qualified for the Cabela's Crappie USA Classic along with the top 10 teams in each division advancing to the regional event which will have a major payback. Big Fish Award

Taking big fish of the event was the team of Randy Pope and Jerry Pruitt with a 1.63 pound Lake Hickory crappie which netted them an additional $101.50. Second place in the big fish contest was the team of Bobby and Michael Jacobs with a 1.6 pound crappie and receiving $43.50.

Crappie USA Kids Fishing Rodeo

In conjunction with the tournament Crappie USA held their Kids Rodeo on Saturday morning with local children attending the event. All the participants signed up for a chance to win one of 4-$5,000.00 scholarships to be drawn for at the Cabela's Crappie USA Classic.

Crappie USA and our anglers have contributed near $200,000.00 to the Crappie Kids Scholarships since 1997. We are very proud to be a part of the education process for the youngsters who participate in our tournaments as adult/youth teams and those who fish in the Crappie USA 'Kids Fishing Rodeos'.
