Crappie USA Tournament Results for Lake Eufaula in Alabama

This past Saturday November 14th Crappie USA held a qualifying event at the Lake Point State Park Ramp on Lake Eufaula at Eufaula, Alabama. Anglers from 8 different states were competing for not only cash and prizes, but a chance to advance to the prestigious Cabela's Crappie USA Classic to be held next Fall at the Pickwick/Wilson Lakes in Alabama.

Semi-Pro Division Results

Taking first place was the team of Charles Sightler of Gray, Georgia and Richard Williams of Macon, Georgia weighing in 8.36 pounds and earning $1,000.00. Sighter and Williams were long line trolling in 5-30 feet of water with their fish suspended 12 feet deep in Rood Creek using black and chartreuse AWD, Charlie Brewer Sliders and Southern Pro baits. The team caught nearly 60 fish with most of them on ledges.

Second place went to the Macon, Georgia team of Charlie Cantrell and Robert Huff Sr with a weight of 6.35 and earning $600.00. Charlie and Robert were down lining with Jiffy Jigs tipped with minnows in 15 feet of water with their fish on bottom. The team caught over 300 fish during the day of competition.

In third place was the Camilla, Georgia team of Danny and Beth Williamson with a weight of 6.07 pounds and earning $400.00. Danny and Beth were pushing gold Showdown jigs tipped with minnows catching their fish suspended over brush in 8-20 feet of water. The team caught 50-60 fish using Vicious Line, Minn Kota Trolling Motor and Humminbird electronics.

Danny Cannon of Toomsboro, Georgia and Billy Williams of Cochran, Georgia took fourth place with a weight of 5.69 pounds.

Fifth place went to the Princeton, New Jersey Team of Tommie Roper and Jared Roper with a total weight of 5.43 pounds.

Amateur Division Results

In first place in the amateur division was the Rome, Georgia team of Kevin Randall and John Hendrix with a total weight of 8.84 pounds and earning $600.00. Kevin and John were slow trolling the south end of the main lake in 18-24 feet of water using lime/black/chartreuse Big Bite Baits tipped with minnows. The team caught a total of 60-65 fish during the day.

Second place went to Rick Howard of Warner Robbins, Georgia and Fred Walker of Lizella, Georgia with a weight of 8.23 pounds and earning $400.00. Rick and Fred started out long lining from a creek out to the main river where they caught their 2 best fish then going to a slough using light blue/chartreuse and popsicle colored AWD, Southern Pro and Pig Belly jigs. The team caught a total of 150-200 fish during the day.

Taking third place was Tommy Cherry of Dublin, Georgia and Steve Brown of Elmore, Alabama with a weight of 7.31 pounds and earning $200.00. Tommy and Steve were long lining the Little Ruddy area with their fish suspended in 12-20 feet deep in 12-30 feet of water. The team was using AWD and Southern Pro jigs in a variety of colors, catching 50-60 fish throughout the day.

In fourth was the team of Robby Huff of Macon, Georgia and Raymond Huff of Newnan, Georgia with a weight of 6.5 pounds.

Fifth place went to the lone angler William Roberts of Tallahassee, Florida with a weight of 5.71 pounds.

Big Fish Award

Taking big fish of the event was the team of Charles Sightler of Gray, Georgia and Richard Williams of Macon, Georgia weighing 2.03 pounds and earning the team $259.00. Second place in the big fish contest was the team of Rick Howard of Warner Robbins, Georgia and Fred Walker of Lizella, Georgia with a 1.93 pound crappie which earned them an extra $111.00.

Crappie USA Kids Fishing Rodeo

In conjunction with the tournament Crappie USA held their Kids Rodeo on Saturday morning with several local children attending the event. All the participants signed up for a chance to win one of 6-$2,000.00 scholarships to be drawn for at the Cabela's Crappie USA Classic.

Crappie USA and our anglers have contributed nearly $270,000.00 to the "Crappie Kids" Scholarships since 1997. We are very proud to be a part of the education process for the youngsters who participate in our tournaments as adult/youth teams and those who fish in the Crappie USA "Kids Fishing Rodeos".

"We wish to thank the Eufaula Chamber of Commerce and the Lake Point Resort State Park for their support of the event", said Tournament Director Larry Stephens. Also a big thanks to Will Smith of Big Bite Baits for stopping by during the weigh in on Saturday.

Stats for the Tournament:

Weather-Morning temperatures were in the upper 50's with blue ski's and light winds. Afternoon brought a high of 73 with blue skis and light winds.

Water- After hurricane Ida dumped from 3-5 inches of rain in the area it left area lakes muddy and loaded with debris. The water temperature was 64 degrees.
