Crappie USA Tournament Results For $10,000.00 2-Day Super Event on Cherokee Lake At Morristown, TN

This past Friday & Saturday March 27th & 28th Crappie USA held their 2-day $10,000.00 super event on Cherokee Lake at Morristown, Tennessee. Over 70 of the top anglers from 10 different states were competing for not only the $10,000.00 in cash and prizes, but a chance to advance to the prestigious Cabela’s Crappie USA Classic. This year's classic will be held October 7th-10th, 2015 on Indiana's Patoka Lake at Jasper, Indiana.

Semi-Pro Division Results

Taking first place was the team of Wayne Darnell of Kingsport, Tennessee and Ricky Keener of Kodak, Tennessee with a 2-day weight of 18.41 pounds and earning $3,000.00 for first place. Wayne and Ricky also won the Ranger Cup Award receiving $500.00, another $500.00 for the Talon Bonus along with an extra $200.00 for the Cumberland Crappie Bonus giving the team a total payback of $4,200.00. Wayne and Ricky were fishing mid lake shooting docks in deeper water with lights out color jigs to catch 25 fish total in the 2-days of fishing.

Second place went to the team of Neal Alvis of Rogersville, Tennessee and his partner Scott Bunch of Morristown, Tennessee weighing in a 2-day total of 18.37 pounds and earning $1,500.00. Neal and Scott fished the middle of the lake long line trolling using Crappie Magnet jigs but most fish were caught on live bait and caught 10 fish in the 2-days. In third place was the team of Tommy Cherry of Dublin, Georgia and Rick Howard of Warner Robbins, Georgia with a 2-day weight of 18.21 pounds and earning $800.00. Tommy and Rick long line trolled the middle of the lake in 20 to 25 feet of water using AWD black/chartreuse jigs to catch nearly 20 fish for the 2-days.

Randy Pope and Steven Deitz of Hickory, North Carolina took fourth place in the Semi-Pro Division with a weight of 16.8 pounds. Randy and Steven were fishing docks in 8 to 50 feet of water to catch 30 total fish on white and yellow Little Fishy jigs. Randy and Steven captured second biggest fish of the event with a 1.89 pound crappie and earning $100.00.

Fifth place went to the Somerset, Kentucky team of Todd Dalton and Robert Massey with 13.4 pounds. Todd and Robert fished Poor Valley tight lining in 20 feet of water to catch 23 fish for the weekend but only 5 on Saturday.

Amateur Division Results

First place in the amateur division went to the Marysville, Tennessee team of Darren and Tracey Caughron with a 2-day weight of 17.68 pounds and earning $1,500.00. The team also won the Ranger Cup Award earning $250.00 along with $150.00 for the Driftmaster bonus award. Darren and Tracey pulled Black/Blue/chartreuse jigs on planner boards in 20 to 25 feet of water to catch 30 fish in two days. The team was running 25 to 30 feet of line behind the planner boards at .7 mile per hour with 6 pound line and 1/8 ounce jig heads. The team was fishing the middle of the lake in German Creek.

Second place went to the Georgetown, Kentucky team of David Rogers and Scott Buchanan weighing in 11.94 pounds and earning $700.00. David and Scott were fishing German creek tight lining live bait in 12 to 18 feet of water. On Saturday the fish moved deeper with the cold front moving in. The team caught 13 total fish for the 2-days of the event.

Taking third place was the Jackson, Tennessee team of Wally Littrell and James Baxter weighing in 5.32 pounds and earning $500.00. Wally and James were fishing Fall Creek slow trolling black/blue jigs tipped with minnows in 8 to 10 feet of water to catch 5 fish total.

In fourth place was the team of Gregory Oaks of Waynesburg, Kentucky and Shane Yocum of Hustonville, Kentucky with a weight of 4.75 pounds. Gregory and Shane were fishing the middle of the River spider rigging with Joker jigs pink/chartreuse and black/chartreuse in 20 feet of water catching 4 fish in the 2 days.

Kayak Division

1st Place in the Kayak Division went to Zane Kirkpatrick of Whitesburg Tennessee with a 1.68 pounder on Friday winning him a check for $200.00. Zane fished the Three Springs area in 7 feet of water using Green Fly jigs and live bait.

Stats for the Tournament:

Weather- The temperatures on Friday were cold with a high of 44 degrees with temperatures dropping to 20 degrees that night with rain all day on Friday. On Saturday temperatures were in the 30's with winds 5-15 MPH out of the north.
