Crappie USA Tournament Results For Mississinewa & Salamonie Lakes at Wabash, Indiana

Mississinewa and Salamonie Lakes played host to the Crappie USA Event this past Saturday, May 7, 2016. 80 anglers from several different states were competing for not only the $5,510.00 in cash and prizes, but a chance to advance to the prestigious Cabela’s Crappie USA Classic. This year's classic will be held October 27 – 29, 2016 on Kentucky & Barkley Lakes at Paris, Tennessee.

Pro Division Results

The tournament began with light rain on Saturday morning, clearing by the afternoon allowing a first place finish for Thomas Hankins of Indianapolis, Indiana and Ron Bilbray of Anderson, Indiana with a total weight of 10.61 pounds and earning $1,200.00, plus $240.00 2nd Place Big Fish. The team fished Mississinewa Lake in 7 to 11 feet of water over brush using baby shad jigs to catch 40 fish for the day. Thomas and Rob also had the 2nd Place Big Fish of the event weighing in at 2.02 pounds.

Strong winds all day, at times gusting to 25mph, couldn't stop Eric Millsaps of Arcadia, IN and Rick Hancock of Edinburgh, Indiana from taking second place with a total weight of 8.83 pounds and earning $750.00, plus $250.00 Ranger Cup Bonus. The team fished Mississinewa Lake in 10 to 14 feet of water, spider rigging yellow and green color jigs to catch over 60 fish for the day. Eric and Rick also won the Ranger Cup Bonus in the Pro Division.

In third place was David Bowser of Marion, Indiana and Mike Morrison of Muncie, Indiana weighing in at 8.68 pounds and earning $500.00. The team fished Salamonie Lake in 3 to 4 feet of water using jigs of various colors and live bait to land 50 fish for the event.

Zack and Mike Fishbaugh took fourth place with a total weight of 7.94 pounds. The team left before being interviewed.

Fifth place went to Michael Bleds and Doug Sikora both of Noblesville, Indiana weighing in at 7.82 pounds and earning $570.00 for Big Fish of the Event. The team fished Mississinewa Lake in 7 to 11 feet of water, tight lining with yellow jigs and caught their Big Fish of the tournament a 2.17 pounder.

Amateur Division Results

Saturday saw temperatures in the 60's and also saw Terry Pucel and Gary Singleton with a first place finish in the amateur division. The Knox, Indiana team weighed in at 8.23 pounds and took home a check for $700.00. The team fished Mississinewa Lake in 8 feet of water, vertical jigging using green/black/red jigs and minnows. Terry and Gary caught 80 total fish for the tournament.

In second place was Justin and Trisha Moore, both of Kokomo, Indiana with a total weight of 8.20 pounds and earning $450.00. The team fished Mississinewa Lake in 8 to 12 feet of water, vertical jigging with live bait to land 65 fish.

Taking third place was Jeff Yeakle of Jonesboro, Indiana and John Brumley of Marion, Indiana weighing in at 7.91 pounds and earning $300.00. The team fished Mississinewa Lake in 5 to 12 feet of water, spider rigging with live bait to catch 75 fish on Saturday.

In fourth place was Bob Land of Lafontaine, Indiana and Steve Jeffers of Wabash, Indiana with a total weight of 7.44 pounds and taking home $200.00.

Kayak Division

Josh Gallimore won the Crappie USA Kayak Division landing his fish on Salamonie Lake in 7 feet of water. John used live bait to catch his 3 fish that were 25.25 inches in total.

Crappie USA Free Kids Fishing Rodeo

In conjunction with the tournament, Crappie USA held their Kids Rodeo on Saturday morning with several children attending the event. All the participants signed up for a chance to win one of 6-$1,000.00 scholarships to be drawn for at the Cabela’s Crappie USA Classic.

Crappie USA and our anglers have contributed nearly $334,000.00 to the “Crappie Kids” Scholarships since 1997. We are very proud to be a part of the education process for the youngsters who participate in our tournaments as adult/youth teams and those who fish in the Crappie USA “Kids Fishing Rodeos”.
