Crappie USA Tournament Results For Lake Guntersville at Stevenson, Alabama

Lake Guntersville played host to the Crappie USA event this past Saturday, March 10, 2018. Over 70 anglers from several states were competing for not only the $6,450.00 in cash and prizes, but a chance to advance to the prestigious Cabala's Crappie USA Classic. The Classic event will be October 3 – 6, 2018 on Lake Cumberland at Somerset, Kentucky and will have a guaranteed payout of $125,000 in cash and prizes. Pro Division Results

Tournament day saw temperatures in the 40's with heavy rain and fog for most of the day. It also saw Dale Thompson and Eddie Milby, both of Greensburg, Kentucky take first place in the Pro Division with a total weight of 12.57 pounds and earned $1,500.00, plus an additional $500.00 Ranger Cup Bonus. Th team fished South Saudy area of the lake in 14 – 16 feet of water using dark color crank baits to catch a total of 15 fish for the day. The fish were biting early in the morning, beginning to slow down when heavy rains began to fall from 9am until the early afternoon.

Chad Hitchcock of Rockmont, Georgia and Jason Tucker of Guntersville, Alabama took second place with a total weight of 12.50 pounds and earned $800.00, plus an additional $250.00 Talon Bonus. The team fished the South Saudy area in 14 – 17 feet of water using live bait over cover to land a total of 50 fish for the event.

Taking third place were Joe and Janette Carter, both of Gilbert, South Carolina weighing in at 12.16 pounds and earning $500.00. The team also fished the South Saudy area, long-line trolling assorted color jigs in over 15 feet of water to catch a total of 50 fish for the day. The team stated they would love to see a Classic event on Guntersville Lake due to the excellent fishery and so many large and healthy fish being caught by the teams.

Amateur Division Results

Chad Brooks of Sommerville, Alabama and John Childers of Union Grove, Alabama took first place in the Amateur Division with a total weight of 13.54 pounds and earned $900.00. The team fished the South en of Lake Guntersville in 5 – 12 feet of water, tight-lining minnows with one pole in hand to be able to get bait down tight into the cover. Bite was very light due to rain and conditions, but they caught 35 fish for the day.

Taking second place was Gary Stephens of Guntersville, Alabama weighing in at 12.38 pounds and earning $400.00, plus an additional $190.00 for 2nd Big Fish. Gary fished South Saudy after early boat problems, using one pole in hand with minnows on Roadrunner heads later after the rain quit, switching over to spider rigging in 12 – 14 feet of water in brush and had 2nd Place Big Fish of the event, a 2.44 pound slab.

Justin Harris of Moulton, Alabama and Jeff Harris of Trinity, Alabama took third place of the event weighing in at 12.26 pounds and earned $300.00. The team fished the lower end of the lake in 25 feet of water pulling crank baits in black to catch 14 fish for the tournament.

Roger and Brad West, both of Gurley, Alabama took fourth place weighing in at 12.10 pounds and earning $200.00. The team fished the Waterfront area shooting docks with shimmer shad color jigs in 14 – 20 feet of water to catch 50 fish for the day.

6th Place Amateur Team, Roger Claywell and Dean Rogers had Big Fish of the event weighing 2.49 pounds and earning $430.00, The team also had Ranger Cup Bonus for an additional $125.00.
