Crappie USA Tournament Results For Lake of Egypt at Marion, Illinois

Lake of Egypt played host to the Crappie USA Super Event this past weekend, March 16 – 17, 2018. Nearly 100 anglers from several states were competing for not only the $16,000 in cash and prizes, but a chance to advance to the prestigious Cabala's Crappie USA Classic. The Classic event will be October 3 – 6, 2018 on Lake Cumberland at Somerset, Kentucky and will have a guaranteed payout of $125,000 in cash and prizes. Pro Division Results

Friday saw strong winds and cloudy skies, turning to rain early on Saturday with South winds at 10 – 20mph, changing to North midday from 15 – 25mph with temperatures in the 50's. It also saw Matthew Strobel and Tyson Shoot, both of Marion, Illinois take first place in the Pro Division with a total weight of 19.59 pounds and earned $3,000, plus an additional $500 Talon Bonus and $100 Jenko Bonus. The team cast TTI Blakemore Roadrunner jigs in black and chartreuse on the northern portion of the lake in varied water depths to catch over 70 fish for the weekend.

Daniel Kash of Bonnie, Illinois and Barry Kash of Waltonville, Illinois took second place with a total weight of 18.49 pounds and earned $2,000, plus an additional $250 Ranger Cup Bonus. The team fished the South end of Lake of Egypt, spider rigging minnows in deep water, with 21 feet being the best to land fish with over 30 caught for the event.

Taking third place were Jerry Onhiser of Salem, Illinois and Sean Drury of East Carondelet, Illinois weighing in at 17.59 pounds and earning $1,000. The team fished mid lake, spider rigging minnows in shallow water to catch a total of 20 fish for the 2-day tournament.

Sean Hawkins and Michael Renfro, both of Goreville, Illinois took fourth place with a total weight of 17.5 pounds and earned $600, plus an additional $500 Xtreme Tank Bonus. The team also fish mid lake with cork and jig, chartreuse combo colors were working best in 2 – 4 feet of water, landing 40 – 50 fish for the weekend.

Amateur Division Results

Michael Arnold and Jason Shingler, both of Lafayette, Indiana took first place in the Amateur Division with a total weight of 16.69 pounds and earned $1,500, plus the Driftmaster Bonus. The team fished the power plant area in 3 – 4 feet of water, casting minnows under a bobber in areas where they found fish on sonar, primarily where warmer water was being discharged close to the plant to land 15 fish on Friday and 45 fish on Saturday.

Taking second place was Patrick Stone and Patrick Vowell, both of Anderson, Indiana weighing in at 16.62 pounds and earning $1,000. The team fished the south end of Lake of Egypt, in a creek to find big females getting ready for the spawn, to catch over 80 fish in the two days on live bait fishing under floats in shallow water.

Roger Claywell of New Castle, Indiana and Dean Rogers of Eaton, Ohio took third place of the event weighing in at 16.17 pounds and earned $500, plus an additional $300 Xtreme Bonus and $125 Ranger Cup Bonus. The team fished the narrow area with a minnow under a bobber in less than 10 feet of water to catch 35 – 40 fish for the weekend.

Terry Davis of Bloomington, Illinois and Josh Nast of Normal, Illinois took fourth place weighing in at 15.23 pounds and earning $300. The team fished the south end of the lake using chartreuse and silver color jigs in 3 – 4 feet of water to land 40 total fish for the event.

Taking fifth place was Douglas Hess of Monee, Illinois and Ralph Hobs of Mayfield, Kentucky weighing in at 14.71 pounds and earning $200. The team fished the south end of Lake of Egypt with minnows under corks in 12 – 15 feet of water to catch 20 fish for the weekend.

John and Thomas Gray, both of Murray, Kentucky has Big Fish of the tournament weighing 2.46 pounds and earning $615.
