Crappie USA Tournament Results For Lake Wylie at Belmont, North Carolina
Pro Division Results
Tournament day saw temperatures in the 50's all day with strong NE winds from 15 – 25mph. Ed Duke of Concord, North Carolina and Teddy Steen of Leesville, South Carolina took first place in the Pro Division with a total weight of 11.03 pounds and earned $1,500.00. The team fished the Lower Torrence area, long-line trolling Spinny Minny jigs in orange color, fishing 5 feet deep in 20 foot water to catch 50 total fish for the event.
Gary Ashe and Penn Motley, both of Concord, North Carolina took second place with a total weight of 10.84 pounds and earned $800.00. The team fished the channels around Crowders Creek, tight-lining minnows in 5 – 8 feet of water to land 15 fish for the day.
Taking third place were Ellis and Jon Cannon, both of Chapin, South Carolina weighing in at 10.82 pounds and earning $500.00. The team fished Catawba and Crowders Creek, long-line trolling Charlie Brewer jigs in junebug color in over 30 feet of water, catching the fish suspended around 15 feet to have 25 fish for the day.
Mike Huffstetler and Ray Koon, both of Chapin, South Carolina took fourth place with a total weight of 10.69 pounds and had 2nd place Big Fish of the event, weighing 2.38 pounds and earning $160.00.
Amateur Division Results
Shannon Suttle of Bostic, North Carolina and Todd McGhee of Midland, North Carolina took first place in the Amateur Division with a total weight of 11.32 pounds and earned $800..00, plus an additional $400.00 for Big Fish. The team fished the south end of Lake Wylie in 16 – 20 feet of water using Spinny Minny Green/Orange color jigs to catch over 50 fish. The team also had Big Fish of the event, weighing in at 2.72 pounds.
Taking second place were Ervin Henderson of Chapel Hill, North Carolina and Dennis Reynolds of Raleigh, North Carolina weighing in at 9.95 pounds and earning $400.00. The team fished Boyd's Creek, long-line trolling Charlie Brewer Slider in junebug color in 2 – 3 feet of water early in the morning and 10 feet of water later in the day to land 25 – 30 fish for the event. .
Ricky Smith of Kings Mountain, North Carolina and George Smith of Dallas, North Carolina took third place of the event weighing in at 8.94 pounds and earned $300.00. The team fished the Torrence Niven area of the lake, long-line trolling black/blue jigs in 15 – 25 feet of water to catch 75 fish for the day.
